About the Project
Latent Echoes
Latent Echoes is an interactive installation that invites visitors to dance in front of a large screen, where their movements are captured and mirrored in real time by an AI-generated digital double.
At first, the avatar faithfully duplicates the dancer’s body language. Gradually, it begins to improvise and forge its own gestures, asserting a sense of autonomy. The work explores the evolving relationship between humans and artificial intelligence—reimagined here as a dance partner—while questioning our perception of self-image, chance, and instruction-free interaction. Designed to be intuitive and accessible to all audiences, each 90-second session automatically resets for the next participant.
The project stems from ongoing research at Université Paris 8’s INREV laboratory, investigating the intersections of art, dance, virtual reality, and generative AI.
